Andorra
Ski the peaks of Andorra, a tiny resort between France and Spain. Andorra’s ski resorts are rated some of the best in Europe for learning how to ski and is a very modern ski region with varied slopes, high quality accommodation and great value which make it a great option for families. Austria

And when you are not on the slopes, try some wintry non-ski activities to top off a fun family adventure.
Switzerland
The Swiss Alps seem higher, more dramatic, and more spectacular than other ski areas. You will enjoy the queue-free lifts, high altitude snow and wide uncrowded runs. Unlike new ski villages, Swiss resorts are authentic. The mountain restaurants, friendly cafes and Victorian-style hotels make you feel like you have experienced true Switzerland. A lot of the resorts are traffic-free, peaceful, and incredibly scenic.
New Zealand
New Zealand ski fields are amongst some of the best in the southern hemisphere, with resorts in Queenstown, Wanaka, and Methven. New Zealand's ski resorts are located within magnificent settings and are close to other adrenalin-pumping activities including bungy jumping and jet boating.
Norway
For an all-round winter experience, you cannot beat skiing in Norway. Home to more gold medals at the Winter Olympics than any other nation, it is no surprise that skiing is a way of life here. Great for beginners, there are heaps of wide, quiet slopes and reliable snow cover. Cosy log cabins are dotted among sugar-dusted forests and there are plenty of excellent off-slope activities.

Dotted across the Julian Alps, the three main ski resorts in Slovenia have gentle, uncrowded slopes. The superb ski schools make it a popular pick for beginners and families, and excellent snowmaking keeps the powder topped up throughout the winter. Everything is great value too – from accommodation to restaurants – and the medieval villages and national park scenery.
When is the best time to go skiing?
Generally, most European ski resorts, in destinations such as France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy open for their winter ski season in November and stay open until mid-April. Resorts with a glacier ski area tend to open sooner, and stay open longer than this, with some offering skiing and snowboarding throughout the summer.
The best time to visit really depends on what kind of skiing experience you are looking for. If you are looking for guaranteed snow, the months of January or February are usually a safe bet. Towards the end of February, the good snow cover is often joined by longer day light hours, and hopefully a gentle rise in temperatures, but this can also be the busiest time of year to hit the slopes.
That said, December is not particularly quiet either. Taking to the mountains over the holidays does fulfil the dream of a white Christmas, and there is something truly magical about staying in a mountain resort over the festive period. If you prefer warmer temperatures the later, you hit the slopes in March and April the better.
